The ISA Water & Wastewater Industries Division is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 WWID Student Scholarships. Open to college and university students, the water/wastewater division’s scholarships are given out to promote higher learning.  This year’s recipients are Robert G. Burmeister and Sharon Miller. Each will receive a $1000 USD scholarship to help defray the costs of their education.

Biography: Robert Burmeister graduated with honors from Clay High School (South Bend, Indiana) in 2009. While in high school, he was a four year member of the ROTC program where he was a flight commander and achieved the rank of colonel.  As a long-time member of the Scouting movement, Robert attained the rank of Eagle Scout as a young man, and he still spends time with his troop, assisting on camp outs and day trips. Rob also studies Japanese Martial Arts at a local dojo and works a part time job. He is currently in his junior year at Indiana University in South Bend where he studies Criminal Justice and Psychology. As a member of Alpha Sigma Phi, he is co-chairing the committee that is organizing a Live Strong Cancer Awareness Day at the college. After college, Rob would like to put his degrees to use and join the police force.

Scholarships, such as the one offered by the WWID, go a long way towards offsetting high cost college programs such as mine. The 2012 ISA Water/Wastewater Industries Division scholarship has helped reduce the financial burden of my studies. “

Biography: “As a Freshman at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York and a member of the school’s Dean’s List, I completed my first semester of college in December of   2011 with a 3.57 GPA.  My program of study is a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing.  I chose Nursing because I feel it is a challenging and rewarding career.  Throughout my childhood I have always felt I would be a nurse.  Nurses play an important role in our health care system.  I have been told that I am people person, which I feel makes me a good fit for nursing.  My career goal is to actively take part in providing health care for the many people who live in the community where I live.”
